Find your perfect riding position with a professional, certified bike fitting session at RC Custom – just a few doors away from the main Richmond Cycles shop.
There’s more to a bike fit than simply finding the correct frame size for you to ride. Tailoring your bike’s geometry to your unique physiology and biomechanics will optimise your performance, comfort and safety. Common issues that cyclists suffer from – saddle sores, numbness, lower back pain – can be solved with the right adjustments to saddle height, reach, handlebar width and so on. More importantly, a correctly fitting bike reduces the chances of developing overuse injuries such as tendonitis or IT band syndrome.
We Assess Your Goals & Discuss Any Issues
In your session, we start off with a chat about any existing injuries you may have, as well as your style of riding and any events or races on the horizon that we need to consider.
Finding Your Ideal Position
Next, we set you up on our fitting jig with your current position. As we make adjustments, we analyse video footage and data from the jig (as well as talking with you!) to find the optimum measurements. With the right position, you'll find you can put down more power with a lower perceived effort level.
Applying The Results
Then we transfer our final measurements onto your bicycle. We can also discuss the options for replacement components, if your fit data requires a different crank length, bar width, saddle, etc.
Enjoy Your New & Improved Ride
Time to head out on the bike and ride with your freshly unlocked potential!
Bike Fitting FAQ
Do I need to have purchased my bike from you to get a bike fit?
No, we accept bikes from all other retailers as well as second hand bikes.
How do I know if my position is incorrect?
Signs of an incorrect position include discomfort or pain in the neck, shoulders, back, hands, wrists, knees, or saddle area.
Do you only do bike fits for road bikes?
No, we do bike fits for all bikes.
Will I have to change all my components? Are they included in the cost of the bike fit?
We will discuss with you what we think needs changing so you can make an informed decision. The price of the components isn't included in the bike fit but we will only advise to change what is necessary.
How long does a bike fit take?
We estimate a time of around 3 hours to get the right position on your bike.
How often do I need to review my position?
It's a good idea to get a bike fit whenever you purchase a new bike, experience discomfort or pain while riding, or undergo significant changes in your flexibility, strength, or riding style. Some cyclists opt for periodic bike fits every few years to ensure their fit remains optimal.
What do I need to bring with me?
It's helpful to bring your bike, cycling shoes, and any accessories you regularly use (such as cycling shorts or orthotics). Wear cycling clothing or form-fitting attire that allows the fitter to assess your body's alignment and movement accurately.
