As an independent bike shop we have a genuine commitment to being part of the local community, looking after our planet and investing in products and brands that are trying to lessen their impact on the earth we so love riding our bikes on!

We love riding out with locals, many who become friends, and we strive to build on-going relationships with like-minded organisations! So, here are some ways our local independent bike shop is trying to lessen our environmental impact and help our local community.

Recycled Packaging

At Richmond Cycles, we prioritise the use of recycled packaging for our shipments and parcels. This means that you might receive your item in a package that was used previously and most likely sent to us by our suppliers.

We believe that this reduces the amount of plastic and paper used to send out our parcels. But don't worry, all parcels are packed up with care and you will receive your goods safely.

We encourage you to reuse that packaging yourself next time you need to send something out.

Tyre & Tube Recycling

Every year tens of thousands of bike tyres and tubes end up in landfill. It is suggested around 30,500,000 tyres and 152,500,000 inner tubes are disposed of at landfill in the UK each year, and with the growth of road biking in the UK, that is a lot of tyres!

With cycling being a more sustainable way to travel, we want to ensure we are disposing of our tyres sustainably also. We want to divert this valuable material from landfill so the rubber can be recycled into new purposes such as road surfaces and playgrounds and new products!

At Richmond Cycles, we are a tyre recycling centre, so you can pop in and drop off your old tyres to ensure they don't end up in landfill. We will take care of them and make sure they are recycled!

Ecologi Carbon Offsetting

As a community, whether we like it or not, there’s a carbon cost to almost anything and everything we do – it is our duty to try and reduce our impact on the climate wherever we can. Teaming up with Ecologi was the next logical step for us in our journey of being a climate-positive workforce, offering their expertise to help us offset our carbon footprint.

With their help, we have been able to calculate the carbon footprint for not only our business but also for our workforce as a whole. This has allowed us to put measures in place that will offset the carbon footprint of Richmond Cycles. From ensuring our staff members cycle into work whenever possible, to planting trees in Madagascar and contributing to global carbon reduction projects – the little things really add up.

Cycle Of Good

We work with charity Cycle of Good to recycle all our inner tubes. If you have inner tubes at home or in the garage, don't hesitate to pop in our store, we'll send them to Cycle of Good on your behalf!

Cycle of Good will then use these tubes to create handcrafted goods using the materials by training tailors in the world's poorest countries so they can make a living. All money made by Cycle of Good pays for childcare and non-profit social enterprise in Malawi. That’s why it’s called the Cycle of Good!

We stock Cycle of Good, including RC branded products, in the shop. Swing by and take a look!
