About Vielo
Vielo are all about British riding. Father and son duo Ian and Trevor Hughes founded Vielo after realising that many bike brands sold in the UK are just not built for British road conditions. Bikes designed for the perfect asphalt and sundrenched climate of Mallorca or California don’t take into account the changeable weather, and questionable attitude to pothole repair we endure in the UK. So, back in 2017 Trevor and Ian took it upon themselves to create the solution, by designing and building in-house a proper, high performance British bike, able to take British riding conditions in its stride.
They, and their carefully-selected team, have many years of experience working for some of the most prestigious brands in the cycling industry. Not only the best in their field, but their dedication to a shared goal and like-minded focus has quickly turned a fledgling business into a tight-knit group of friends creating products that are brace, exciting, and centred on clean, pure engineering and unbeatable attention to detail.
Vielo are open and honest about why they build their bikes in the way they do: no hype, no jargon just straight-up explanations of why they have built a frameset in a particular way, or why this exact component was selected. We love their simple craftsmanship and we think you will too!
Why 1X?
Vielo believes that the future is all about 1x, and the growing interest in road bikes with wide ratio 12- and 13-speed drivetrains certainly validates that view. These days, with cassettes available in huge 10-50 tooth ranges your ratio width requirements are covered. Plus with 1x, no front mech reduces weight and eliminates chain rub, ghost shifting and cable issues. Taking the concept one step further though, Vielo have designed their frames specifically for 1x groupsets. With no need to accomodate 2x options, the frame tubing can be better shaped for aerodynamics and power transfer.
The V Model
The Vielo V+1 is a real headturner. Designed as a go-anywhere do-anything machine, the V+1 will happily take 700c or 650b wheels so you can tweak the ride to the day's route and conditions. The wafer-thin seatstays offer supreme compliance for rough surfaces and long days in the saddle, while the symmetrical 1x-specific bottom bracket shell and chain stays ensure superior pedal efficiency and handling. Choose from a wide selection of groupsets from SRAM, Shimano and Campagnolo, plus Vielo's own offering of CNC'd chainrings and forged cranks. Builds start at £4799.
The R Model
The Vielo R+1 is a high performance road bike with an aggressive, aero stance that belies the comfortable ride quality. Thanks to the symmetry afforded by the 1x-specific design, this aerodynamic tubing is also impressively light – the eTap/Di2 frame option tips the scales is just 880g! Clearance for 32mm tyres allows you to take advantage of the latest in wide rim design to reduce fatigue and even chip away further at those aero gains. The icing on the cake? Vielo's integrated bar-and-stem combination, made especially for the R+1. Tidy cable routing, excellent compliance for vibration damping (British roads remember!), and a touch of flare to take the edge off at the wrist. Builds start at £3899.
